Gyonpo Tshering hails from Ura Ma-Krong Village in Ura Gewog, Bumthang Dzongkhag, in central Bhutan. He pursued his studies at the renowned Simtokha Rigzhung School, where he specialized in Buddhist philosophy, literature, and Bhutanese cultural heritage. Following his graduation, he began his professional career in the administrative service before joining the National Library & Archives of Bhutan (NLAB) as a Research Officer. Through his dedication and expertise, he rose to the position of Chief Research Officer and subsequently served as the Acting Director of NLAB for nearly two and a half years.
During his distinguished career, Gyonpo Tshering led and participated in numerous research projects on Bhutan's cultural heritage and authored and edited numerous publications across a wide range of subjects. His works include the compilation of Bhutanese songbooks and other research publications that have become valuable resources for students, researchers, educators, and scholars. Even after his retirement from the civil service, he has remained actively engaged in cultural heritage research through collaborations with civil society organizations and government initiatives. He continues to share his extensive knowledge and experience by mentoring young researchers and supporting efforts to document, preserve, and promote Bhutan's rich cultural heritage for future generations.
