The Royal Thimphu College (RTC) campus spans 25 acres in Ngabiphu, offering a secure and conducive learning environment. Located approximately 10 km from the centre of Thimphu, the campus is about a 25-minute drive via the expressway and approximately one hour from Paro International Airport, Bhutan's only international airport. The campus comprises 34 main buildings and is equipped with modern academic, residential, and recreational facilities, including student hostels, a canteen and dining hall, an auditorium, a conference centre, a football field with artificial turf, outdoor basketball and futsal courts, a multipurpose hall with indoor basketball and badminton courts, and a well-equipped gymnasium.
RTC undertakes a diverse portfolio of research projects in areas such as cultural heritage, climate change adaptation, biodiversity conservation, policy engagement, and technological innovation, contributing to Bhutan's sustainable development while advancing academic research. One of its flagship initiatives, the Perpetuating Highland Heritages of Bhutan Project, is implemented in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Dzongkha Development (DCDD). The project focuses on documenting and preserving the vernacular and often overlooked cultural heritage of Bhutan's highland communities, creating a valuable resource for both present and future generations. To date, research and documentation have been completed in Haa Dzongkhag and Sephu Gewog, Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhag, with fieldwork currently underway in Dhur Gewog, Bumthang Dzongkhag.
